The sky can be a tricky thing to navigate, especially when you’re looking up at it from Earth. While it can seem like the stars are moving in one direction, and this makes sense, what you might also realize is that the planets can appear to move backward at times.
This does not mean that the planets are moving backwards, but they can appear that way because of the way they move around the Sun, in relation to the Earth. Since this optical illusion occurs, it is said that the planets are in retrograde. Many planets can go into retrograde during the year, with the most often talked about planet being Mercury.
When a planet is in retrograde, it might be time to look at how you are approaching the energies of that planet in your life. For example, when Mercury is in retrograde, the idea of communication is up, so you need to be conscious of the way that you interact with others and how you relate with words and written conversations. You might also want to look at the ways in which you are fighting the energies of that planet that is in retrograde in a chart. Are you moving backwards or are you trying to move forward?
